Immanuel United Church of Christ Local Missions

The members of Immanuel United Church of Christ have a strong tradition of supporting and helping those locally in need. We embrace the following missions as a testament to the commitment of our Congregation. Below is an overview of some of the local projects that are dear to us.

Meals on Wheels
The "Meals on Wheels"
program is sponsored by Walworth County Department of Human Services. Senior citizens aged 60 and over who are homebound are eligible. An in-home assessment of need is required. A donation for each meal is requested.

Walworth Immanuel United Church of Christ helps by volunteering to deliver meals to the home of eligible persons. Several area churches and civic organizations participate on a weekly rotation basis. Those receiving meals get five nutritious meals per week. Mary Church is our contact person.

Lydia's Helpers (Quilters)
Lydia's Helpers is Walworth's Immanuel United Church of Christ charity quilting group. They meet at the Church every Wednesday from 9:00 - Noon. Quilts give you that warm, fuzzy feeling and are packed with lots of love. Every child baptized at the Walworth Immanuel United Church of Christ receives a quilt as well as members and friends in need of special comfort.

Quilts are given to area families in need, to Mary's Room in Delavan, and to Walworth County Department of Social Services. Come join us. Gloria Ruskell is our church's contact person, and you can reach her at either source listed below.

Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army
Walworth Immanuel United Church of Christ organizes the bell ringers for the Big Foot area. Our goal is to have bell ringers at both doors of Daniel's Walworth Sentry Foods for five weekends prior to Christmas. Any group can volunteer to staff the kettles. Many churches and civic organizations take an annual role in this worthwhile cause. More groups are always welcome. 65% of the proceeds stay within Walworth County. We've raised as much as $6492.00 in a single season at the local Sentry. If your group would like to participate just contact Gary Ruskell by E-mail or phone as listed below. Gary is our church's contact person. More information can be found on the Salvation Army's Website.

Big Foot Emergency Food Pantry
Walworth Immanuel United Church of Christ
operates it's own Food Pantry.
Demand often increases in the summer when children aren't in school. To compensate for the anticipated drop in donations, We ask companies that usually hold big food drives in the winter to either move them to the summer or to have a second drive in the summer. The Big Foot Emergency Food Pantry is open from 2 to 4 pm Friday and from 9 to 11 am Saturday.

More information can be found on this Janesville Gazette Webpage.

Holiday Food Baskets
For many years (15 +), the Immanuel United Church of Christ has provided holiday meals during Thanksgiving and Easter. Through your donations we are able to deliver Food Baskets to the homes of the less fortunate families in the Walworth - Big Foot area. Each basket contains a traditional dinner for the specific holiday (Turkey for Thanksgiving and Ham for Easter) along with all the fixings. To make a much appreciated donation to our Holiday Food Basket program please contact Madeline Zindrick at the Immanuel United Church of Christ Email: Madeline here

Assistance for those in Crisis
At the Immanuel United Church of Christ one of our missions is to help prevent hunger and homelessness by providing food, assistance and advocacy to low-income people who live in the Walworth - Big Foot area. Our focus is for those in need, which includes the working poor, the unemployed, those on disability, and those on public assistance who are not eligible or who have been denied emergency assistance. We seek to help those in short-term financial crisis situations. While we cannot offer long-term assistance, they do their best to offer counseling, referrals and workshops that help those in need to become better advocates for themselves, providing a vision to seek long-term solutions. If you need help or would like to offer assistance please contact our Church.
